Sleaford Sustainabilty

Stephen Phillips

We know that in the last 200 years, the world we live in has changed remarkably and many challenges face us. Sustainable Sleaford is a charter for a sustainable world, starting with our own community. The starting point is agreement on Sustainable Sleaford, a charter that says we want Sleaford, despite its small place in a large world, to be the best possible example of sustainable living.

A RESOLUTION FOR CHANGE is a starting point for action to tackle climate change and waste.  Charters like this have historically been used as a way for people to stand together. It’s a way for ordinary people to say what they believe in.

Sustainable Sleaford is a campaign organised by a group of local businesses, Councils and other organisations.

Its first action was a ‘Bag for Sleaford’s Future’, reducing local packaging waste by encouraging the use of re-usable bags. After their introduction, retailers in the town reported a marked drop in the use of disposable bags and you will still see lots of re-useable bags around the town.
Sustainable Sleaford has been looking at much longer term projects with SustainNK, North Kesteven District Council’s scheme, to reduce carbon use.
