The Mayor of Sleaford's Speech at the Christmas Lights Ceremony 2024

Good evening and welcome! It's wonderful to see so many of you here tonight as we gather to celebrate the start of the festive season.

Christmas is a time for joy, togetherness, and reflection. As we prepare to light up our beautiful town, let's take a moment to appreciate the spirit of the season. This is a time to come together, to share in the warmth and light that Christmas brings, and to spread kindness and goodwill to all.

I'd like to thank everyone who has worked so hard to make this event possible. Your dedication and effort have brought us all together to enjoy this magical moment.

As lights twinkle bright on this cold winter's night,
We gather together, hearts merry and light.
With laughter and cheer, and loved ones so near,
We welcome the season, the best time of year.

May your days be merry, your spirits be bright,
With peace and goodwill shining warm through the night.
Let's cherish these moments, so precious and dear,
Merry Christmas to all, and a Happy New Year!

And now, without further ado, let's count down together and light up our town.

5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

Merry Christmas, everyone!
