Sleaford Market

Sleaford Market

Sleaford Town Council took over the Market operations from North Kesteven District Council in November 2006.

The Market, which dates back to the early 12th Century, is held on the picturesque Market Place alongside St Denys’ Church. For most of the week the Market Place is a car park operated by the District Council, but on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays it is set up with stalls and traders coming from across the region to sell their wares, including fresh fruit and vegetables, plants, flowers and fish.

On the first Saturday of each month, a Lincolnshire Farmers’ Market is held alongside the regular Market. This brings in many more stalls, all laden with local produce, including meats, honeys, preserves, bread, cakes and pies which, together with the appetising aromas of fresh-cooked venison and ostrich burgers, bring crowds from the town and surrounding areas.

Christmas Market
The Market Place traditionally becomes part of the town’s Christmas celebrations, with a large tree sited in St Denys’ Churchyard, Christmas lights and usually a Christmas Market, which is held at the end of November or beginning of December each year.

Information for Market Traders
Free markets – these are held where normal market days fall over Bank Holiday periods. An extra free day is also usually arranged for Christmas Eve, by permission from the District Council, where this doesn’t fall on a normal Market Day .

All Market Traders agree to abide by the Town Council’s Market Regulations and the “Real Deal” (Lincolnshire County Council) Code of Practice for Markets and Car Boot Fairs.

Pitch Costs
Sleaford Market is run on a pitch only basis at a cost of approx £2.30 per metre (70p per foot) frontage. A typical single pitch is 3m x 3m, which would be £7. We operate a ‘buy one date, get one free’ payment basis, which covers all the regular Markets apart from the Farmers Market. We will send you an invoice at the end of every month. We accept cash, cheque (made payable to Sleaford Town Council) or Bank transfer (details are available upon request).

Gazebos measuring 3m x 3m are available to hire at £5 each, on a first come first served basis. Bookings must be made in advance through the Town Council office. Gazebos must be collected by the trader in advance of the date they are trading, by appointment and returned afterwards.

Bookings are for a pitch only, stalls are not included.

New traders must give their required pitch measurements when booking, so that prices may be calculated. Pitches must be booked in advance. Traders that turn up on the day without booking will be charged £15.

Please Note: All Market Traders must provide a copy of their Public Liability Insurance certificate when booking a Market pitch.
