Environmental Groups

Sleaford Town Council work closely with three local environment groups which are

Sleaford in Bloom
Sleaford Be Litter Free

River Slea Clean Up Group

The River Slea Clean Up Group was set up in 2014 to keep the River Slea rubbish free.

Since then, they have become part of the Rivercare Group. They meet approximately  every six weeks for a couple of hours, where volunteers help clear away the litter and have a smile along the way. Everyone is welcome and they meet at the tractor shed behind the National Centre for Craft and Design. All equipment is provided.

The group have launched "Project Duck" which provides free duck food to hopefully change people’s habits away from feeding bread. This is better for the ducks, improves the water quality, which in turn also helps fish and other wildlife. An added bonus is that less plastic bread bags end up in the river.

For any further information, dates of clean ups, where to get free duck food, etc
Please visit the Facebook page - River Slea Clean Up.

Sleaford in Bloom

Sleaford in Bloom was set up twenty five years ago by a group of enthusiastic volunteers. The group has continued to function successfully ever since and prides itself on working alongside other organisations to maintain and improve the quality of the town's environment.
The dedicated volunteers work to make Sleaford attractive by planting seeds and planting flowers in the tubs, baskets and the containers in and around the town. They work in their polytunnel and around the town.
The volunteers aim each year to keep Sleaford looking attractive and to achieve a gold award from the
East Midlands in Bloom team when they visit annually.
All volunteers are most welcome, be they dedicated gardeners, those interested in the town environment, those with lots of time or just the occasional hour or so, those who can help with planting or weeding and those who can just help once a year.

Sleaford Be Litter Free

The Sleaford Be Litter Free Facebook  page was set up by local volunteers to see if they could help the town by picking up litter themselves and encouraging more people to get involved in keeping the town tidier.

Over several months,  they concentrated on a few specific areas, which made a difference and more people are now volunteering to help, or just picking up and binning rubbish when they are out and about.
Larger  groups such as the Sleaford Striders Plogging Group and Southfields Litter Picking Group have been able to cover wider areas. Sleaford Be Litter Free have been able to lend those groups equipment, litter grabbers, gloves and bags which have been generously provided to us by Sleaford  Town Council, who also help us to dispose of the bags of rubbish.

The group have also had great support from The Sleaford Standard and Target Newspapers who have helped them to publicise the wonderful efforts made by the volunteers.

Please keep an eye on the Facebook page  - Sleaford Be Litter Free, where they advertise any litter picking events happening in the Town.
