Sleaford Market

Updated on 2nd March 2017 by Admin

"The future of the market is of very great importance for Sleaford. The Town Council has a long term interest in promoting the economy and social structure of the town. It would therefore seem appropriate assuming that their bid is acceptable in economic and technical terms they should be treated as a perferred bidder"
DOUGLAS HOGG, MP (31.07.2001)

Sleaford Town Council took over the Market operations from North Kesteven District Council in November 2006.

The Market, which dates back to the early 12th Century, is held on the picturesque Market Place alongside St Denys’ Church. For most of the week the Market Place is a car park operated by the District Council, but on Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays it is set up with stalls and traders coming from across the region to sell their wares, including fresh fruit and vegetables, plants and flowers, fish, meat, cheeses, snacks, clothes and accessories.

On the first Saturday of each month, Lincolnshire Farmers’ Market brings an extra 20 or so stalls all laden with local produce, including meats, honeys, preserves, bread, cakes and pies which, together with the appetising aromas of fresh-cooked venison and ostrich burgers, bring crowds from the town and surrounding areas.

Christmas Market
The Market Place traditionally becomes part of the town’s Christmas celebrations, with a tree, lights and usually a Christmas Market with the Lights Switch On on Advent Sunday.

Information for Market Traders
Free markets – these are held where normal market days fall over Bank Holiday periods. An extra free day is also usually arranged for Christmas Eve, by permission from the District Council, where this doesn’t fall on a normal Market Day .

All Market Traders agree to abide by the Town Council’s Market Regulations and the “Real Deal” (Lincolnshire County Council) Code of Practice for Markets and Car Boot Fairs.
